House Washing Before Exterior Painting

Paint only holds as well as the surface under it. Before an exterior repaint, the siding and trim are washed so primer and paint bond to clean material.

Deck, Fence & Concrete Cleaning

    Look at the surface

    Cody checks the wood or concrete, the existing finish and any soft or damaged areas at the free estimate.

    Wash decks and fences

    Decks and fences are washed to remove dirt, gray surface fibers and old loose finish before any stain is applied.

    Concrete next to the project

    Ask about patios, walks or steps next to the deck or house at your estimate, and Cody will tell you what fits the job.

    Dry, then finish

    Wood has to dry before stain or paint goes on. Timing depends on the weather and the product directions.

Why Prep Washing Matters in Minnesota

Long winters, spring thaw and humid summers leave siding, decks and fences with dirt, chalking and mildew that paint and stain will not stick to.

Chalk and dirt

Old paint breaks down into a powdery layer. New paint over chalk can peel early, so it is washed off first.

Mildew in shade

Shaded and lake-adjacent walls stay damp longer. Mildew has to be cleaned off before coating.

Freeze-thaw wear

Moisture that gets behind loose paint freezes and pushes it off. Washing shows what is loose before scraping.

Short exterior season

Exterior work runs in the warmer months, so washing is scheduled to leave drying time before paint or stain.

Cody is worth twice the price! For all You homeowners who are worried about what Contractor hire, take it from me: Cody is Excellent and you will not be disappointed. Hands-down, the best Painter we have ever used. Cody was fantastic. He is meticulous and did a flawless job. He was quiet, respectful, efficient, and best of all left us with a much better looking house than even when it was first built. The original Contractors sprayed paint and thinned it out with water to make it stretch and to allow them to get the job done quickly. It was never right. Cody fixed that and went above and beyond to carefully patch and sand all of the flaws in the trim and the various bumps and bruises that a house got from 20 years and five kids. If I could give him a 10 star rating I would. Just fantastic. I highly recommend him for the work he did. Thanks, C

Cody is truly an exceptional painter and business man. He is a great communicator and is there when he says he will be there. Cody protected surfaces not being painted and did an exceptional job of clean up when the job was over. We were very happy with his work and have already recommended to others.
