A scope you can review before work begins

Cody meets you at the property, looks at the surfaces and talks through what needs attention. The written estimate sets out the work being proposed, so you can ask questions before deciding.

What's included in a cabinet project

  • Doors and drawer fronts removed, labeled and sprayed in a controlled space
  • Every surface degreased before sanding — grease is why cabinet finishes fail
  • Sanding and a bonding primer built for slick factory finishes
  • Grain filling on open-grain oak when a smooth finish is the goal
  • Boxes masked and sprayed in place, counters and floors fully protected
  • Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel or equivalent cabinet-grade finish
  • Doors rehung and hardware reinstalled, then a walkthrough with Cody

How a cabinet project runs

  1. 1

    Free on-site estimate

Cody counts doors and drawers, checks the existing finish and door style, and confirms color and sheen.

  2. 2

    Written scope and schedule

A written estimate broken out by doors, drawer fronts and boxes, with the finish system and timeline.

  3. 3

    Remove, degrease, prime

Doors come off and get labeled; everything is degreased, sanded and primed for adhesion.

  4. 4

    Spray, rehang, walkthrough

Multiple sprayed coats, cure time respected, doors rehung and hardware reset, then a final walkthrough.

What cabinet refinishing typically costs in the Twin Cities

Refinishing typically costs 50–70% less than replacing the same cabinets, and your kitchen layout stays exactly as it is.

Small kitchen (up to 15 doors)

$2,500 – $3,800

Doors, drawer fronts, and boxes in a factory-smooth sprayed enamel.

Standard kitchen (15–30 doors)

$3,800 – $6,000

The most common Twin Cities kitchen size.

Large kitchen or kitchen + island + bath vanity

$6,000 – $9,500

Multiple rooms or extended cabinetry runs.

Typical projects often fall within these ranges, but they are not quotes. Project pricing varies by size, prep, repairs, access, and coatings — your on-site estimate provides the final written price.

What affects your final quote

  • Project size
  • Surface condition and repairs
  • Prep requirements
  • Product and coating selection
  • Access and site conditions
  • Number of coats and color changes
  • Doors and drawer fronts come off, get numbered, and are sprayed off-site or in a controlled setup — not brushed in place.
  • Boxes and face frames are degreased, sanded, and sprayed on site with containment so the rest of the house stays clean.
  • Benjamin Moore Advance and comparable waterborne alkyds give the hard, self-leveling finish cabinets need.

What affects cabinet refinishing cost

Surface condition

Heavy grease, worn edges, peeling factory finish or water damage near the sink all add prep.

Prep and repairs

Grain filling on oak, loose door repairs and hardware changes are priced as line items.

Size and access

Door and drawer count, island size, glass fronts and tall uppers drive labor more than kitchen size alone.

Coating system

Cabinet-grade finishes such as Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane or Benjamin Moore Advance cost more than wall paint and need proper cure time. Chalk paint and ordinary wall paint are not substitutes for a durable cabinet system.

Timeline and scheduling

Most kitchens run several working days; a hard deadline may change how doors and boxes are sequenced.

Refinish, reface or replace

Painting keeps sound boxes and doors in place. Refacing replaces doors and covers the boxes; replacement changes the cabinetry itself. Cody checks the cabinet condition before recommending refinishing.

Pricing guidance is not a binding quote. Your written estimate identifies the work included, preparation, materials, timeline and warranty.

Cody is worth twice the price! For all You homeowners who are worried about what Contractor hire, take it from me: Cody is Excellent and you will not be disappointed. Hands-down, the best Painter we have ever used. Cody was fantastic. He is meticulous and did a flawless job. He was quiet, respectful, efficient, and best of all left us with a much better looking house than even when it was first built. The original Contractors sprayed paint and thinned it out with water to make it stretch and to allow them to get the job done quickly. It was never right. Cody fixed that and went above and beyond to carefully patch and sand all of the flaws in the trim and the various bumps and bruises that a house got from 20 years and five kids. If I could give him a 10 star rating I would. Just fantastic. I highly recommend him for the work he did. Thanks, C

Cody is truly an exceptional painter and business man. He is a great communicator and is there when he says he will be there. Cody protected surfaces not being painted and did an exceptional job of clean up when the job was over. We were very happy with his work and have already recommended to others.
