Deck Staining & Sealing

Stain lasts longer when the wood is clean, dry and ready to take it. Every deck estimate is written out so you can see the prep and product before work starts.

Fence Staining

    Walk the fence line

    Cody checks both sides, posts and gates, and notes plants, grass and anything next to the fence that needs protecting.

  2. 2

    Clean the boards

    Fences are washed so stain can soak into the wood instead of sitting on dirt or old loose finish.

  3. 3

    Protect nearby surfaces

    Siding, plants and hardscape next to the fence are covered before stain goes on.

  4. 4

    Stain and walkthrough

    Stain is applied per the product directions, then Cody walks the fence with you before the job closes.

When to Stain in Minnesota

There is no single date. The right window depends on the stain's directions, how dry the wood is and the forecast.

Dry wood

Wood needs to be dry after washing and rain. Shaded boards can stay damp longer than sunny ones.

Temperature and forecast

Every stain lists its own temperature and dry-time limits. Cody plans around those and the forecast.

Sun exposure

South-facing boards get more UV and usually wear faster than shaded or vertical surfaces.

New wood

New lumber has to be ready to accept a finish. Cody checks it against the product guidance before recommending timing.

Stain vs. Paint for Decks

Stain soaks into the wood and shows its grain, and it wears gradually instead of peeling. Paint and solid coatings sit on top of the boards, hide more of the wood, and can peel where foot traffic and standing water are heavy.

Which one fits depends on the wood, what is on it now and how you use the deck. Cody will walk through the options at the estimate.

Cody is worth twice the price! For all You homeowners who are worried about what Contractor hire, take it from me: Cody is Excellent and you will not be disappointed. Hands-down, the best Painter we have ever used. Cody was fantastic. He is meticulous and did a flawless job. He was quiet, respectful, efficient, and best of all left us with a much better looking house than even when it was first built. The original Contractors sprayed paint and thinned it out with water to make it stretch and to allow them to get the job done quickly. It was never right. Cody fixed that and went above and beyond to carefully patch and sand all of the flaws in the trim and the various bumps and bruises that a house got from 20 years and five kids. If I could give him a 10 star rating I would. Just fantastic. I highly recommend him for the work he did. Thanks, C

Cody is truly an exceptional painter and business man. He is a great communicator and is there when he says he will be there.
